Looking for an adrenaline rush while in Mexico?
“Cenotes” (or sometimes spelled “xenotes”) are sinkholes that formed when stone collapsed and exposed groundwater underneath. It is said that they were sometimes used for sacrificial offerings by the ancient Mayan civilizations. Today, they are beautiful swimming holes that are either fully enclosed, part open, or open-air completely and can easily be visited on your next trip to the area!
