This is for all you Michigan State University alumni and explorers out there! Looking for a place to get away but that is close enough for a quick weekend trip? Going to a Spartans game but want someplace unique to lay your head?
Kevin and I stayed at the Wild Goose Inn Bed & Breakfast as a Valentine’s Day getaway and it was just what the doctor ordered! Being a travel consultant, it’s pretty difficult for me to get away from work in the winter months because of how busy it is, so we decided to stay relatively close to home and take a walk down memory lane in East Lansing, where we first started dating.
In college, I had always walked by the Wild Goose when going from my out-of-the-way free two hour parking spot to class and been intrigued by the Inn. The vines going down the front of it and the little homey sign out front always made me think it would be a cool place to stay someday. Of course, being on a college budget, it never happened.
But now that I’ve been graduated a few years and have a big girl job, I thought, “Hmmm…” Having my regular travel itch, this helped to sedate me until me next big trip just because it was a change of scenery and a distraction from the daily routine.
Not only that, but the B&B was gorgeous! There are individually themed rooms—we stayed in the Summer Safari one (we figured we wanted to get away from the winter, so why would we stay in Winter Eden?). But there are other ones like Spring Meadow, Indian Summer, and Autumn Arbor. Seriously—check out their website, they are SO cool!
Our room had just the feel we were going for—palm trees surrounding an in-room jacuzzi, a fireplace right in the room, and a shower with windows on the top looking up into the evergreen trees above. It felt like being in a luxury suite right in the middle of good ole frat and sorority town.
Of course we couldn’t miss The Peanut Barrel (home of the world’s best burger – unofficially) and the Soup Spoon Café (known for – as the name suggests – amazing soups)—some of our favorite hangouts from our old stomping grounds. I sound so…. OLD.
The service was great and the breakfast was nothing short of delicious. The staff makes you feel like part of the family. Despite my overabundance of cups at home, I couldn’t resist getting one of these cute little mugs they have to bring home with me.
It helps me to envision sitting fireside with fresh coffee and a savory omelet in the morning just like while staying at the Inn…
The Wild Goose is right downtown East Lansing, so walking distance to everything, and they give you parking validation too so you can avoid the nightmare that is parking in a college town.
It’s really romantic too, so whether you’re wanting to spend some quality time with your significant other, re-visit your alma mater, visit a friend, or just want to explore a new town in Michigan, I think the Wild Goose Inn could be considered a destination in itself.
Keeping the Wanderlust Alive,
CAITLYN WITHOUT A COMPASS
